Family Tourism

No matter how young or old the children are, the Algarve is the perfect family holiday destination. Take a look below to see some of the top attractions – there’s something to suit everyone’s taste, from racing tracks and ocean safaris to 4D cinemas and nature trails! With warm weather all year round, it’s easy to see why the Algarve is the perfect choice for a fun-filled family holiday.

For families wanting to explore the wild side of the Algarve, there are a number of day tours offered throughout the region. From jeep safaris to river canoeing, the excursions promise a chance to see the very best of the Algarve’s wild life. Full day trips are suitable for families with children aged 11 and above, who love to explore the great outdoors.

Covering over 18,000 hectares, the Ria Formosa Nature Park comprises sand dunes, marsh lands, lagoons and fresh water lakes. Its diverse group of inhabitants includes birds, fish, mammals and amphibians. Accessible by road or ferry from Faro and Olhão, it makes for a great day out exploring. Visit the recuperation centre for birds, follow the self-guided nature trails and admire the park’s beauty on a trip in a traditional fishing boat.
The Algarve is the perfect spot to see dolphins migrating from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. There are several companies that offer dolphin boat cruises from Lagos, Portimão and Alvor. A boat trip is also the perfect way to enjoy the Algarve’s fine weather.

Water Parks
Water Parks are aplenty in the Algarve and can provide a whole day of family fun, with most of the parks open from early April to late October. One of the top water parks in the Algarve is Aquashow in Quarteira, which is home to the biggest watercoaster in Europe – 750 metres long and reaching speeds of up to 70mph.
For something a little different, Zoomarine combines entertainment with education. Located just outside Albufeira, this is a fantastic day out for all the family. Top attractions include the dolphin interaction programme, the 4D cinema show that aims to teach children about the effects of global warming and deforestation, an aquarium filled with an array of marine life and pools where visitors can simply rest and relax.

The Algarve is an adventure playground – with magnificent views for horse riders and cyclists to enjoy. You will never tire of things to do. Visitors are enticed to take a dip in the clear waters and try out one of the many exhilarating water sports on offer. Why not take a surfing lesson or have a go at kite boarding? There are a number of schools along the coast that are waiting to show you the ropes.
For children who are eager to get behind the steering wheel, the Algarve’s Karting Almancil gives them a chance to unleash their energy as they whizz around the race tracks. Located close to Faro airport and only five minutes away from the beaches at Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo beaches, the complex offers entertainment for all ages.

The Algarve has a wide range of hotels that are ideal for families. Hotels offering Kids Club facilities mean that Mum and Dad can be sure that their children are well looked after and it’s also a great way to find them playmates to share their holiday with. Once the kids are taken care of, Mum and Dad are free to enjoy a well earned break and spend quality relaxation time together. There is plenty for grown-ups to enjoy; scenic walks, indulging spa days, golfing on one of the region’s fabulous courses or a day exploring the shops, cafes and restaurants.
